The scientific advancement that I used was Botox Injections. Botox stands for Botulinum Toxin, and is often used as a method of weight loss, or facial injection similar to plastic surgery. Supposedly, Botox can also be injected into the stomach lining, and will make you fuller, sooner. This will promote weight loss, but there is conflicting evidence as to whether this helps or hurts. Botox is also injected into the face, to make skin more smooth. Unfortunately, it can also result in red, acne-like bumps or rashes sometimes, and does not seem like a good idea to me. I think that this is a good example of a quest for perfection because people are trying to make themselves more perfect, by losing weight or making themselves more beautiful. This even relates to the argumentative essay, because it is meant to be good, like a utopia, but can actually have bad effects, like a dystopia. I think that cosmetic Botox Injections are a bad idea, because they regularly cause as much harm as they do good.
